Cherokee County Resident and former real estate agent Danny Oplotnik spoke of his experience with zoning and attracting residents during the Planning Commission’s Public Hearing about the Comprehensive Plan in the District Courtroom on June 10.
County Facilities Maintenance Director Mike Thomas was busy Monday morning removing debris from the courthouse lawn. The large branch from a sweetgum tree fell during storms that ripped through the county Saturday evening.

With more rain predicted later this week, Cherokee County continues to receive the brunt of mother nature’s torment. High winds and heavy rain ripped through the county Saturday evening causing widespread damage to trees and limbs.

Ron and Kay Holmes will celebrate their 50th Wedding Anniversary June 12. The couple was married in 1976. There will be a family celebration at a later date.
Outstanding choir students at Columbus Schools were presented with their certificates at the end of year vocal concert. Karley Jones director presented the awards. Those earning the award were Lydia Wilkins, River Murphy and Jewlie Shrader.
